Privacy Policy - rollbook

Last Updated: May 20, 2026

About rollbook

rollbook is a lightweight cataloging app for iOS that helps you organize your scanned film photos by roll. It sits on top of Apple Photos and acts purely as an organizational layer, letting you group photos into virtual "film rolls," tag them with film stock metadata (format, brand, ISO, notes ...), and browse them as contact sheets.

rollbook is not a photo storage or cloud backup app. It does not upload your photos anywhere. Your images remain in Apple Photos at all times; rollbook stores only lightweight references to them.

This Privacy Policy explains what information rollbook accesses, how it is used, and what choices you have.

1. Information We Access

1.1 Photo Library (Apple Photos)

When you create or edit a roll, rollbook asks for permission to access your Photos library. This permission is governed by iOS and can be changed anytime in:

Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos → rollbook

What we do with photo access:

Read photos you explicitly select when creating or editing rolls.

Store references only using Apple's local identifier (PHAsset.localIdentifier), not copies of images.

Display thumbnails and previews through Apple's standard photo APIs only when needed.

Automatically respect deletions from Apple Photos because rollbook never stores its own copies.

rollbook does not modify, delete, or write to your Photos library. It operates in read-only mode.

1.2 Roll Metadata You Enter

Metadata such as roll title, film stock, format, ISO, date shot, notes, and similar information is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework.

This information never leaves your device.

1.3 App Preferences

App preferences such as grain intensity and UI settings are stored locally on your device.

2. Information We Do NOT Collect

rollbook does not collect, request, or transmit:

Your name, email, phone number, or account information

Your location data

Your contacts, calendar, microphone, or camera access

Advertising identifiers (IDFA)

Analytics events or crash reports sent to us

Your photos, thumbnails, or EXIF metadata on any server

We have no user database and no servers storing your personal content.

3. Third-Party Services

RevenueCat (In-App Purchase Management)

rollbook uses RevenueCat to process and validate one-time in-app purchases for premium features.

RevenueCat may receive:

An anonymous RevenueCat-generated identifier

Your App Store receipt for purchase validation

Basic device information such as iOS version and app version

RevenueCat's data handling is governed by its own privacy policy: https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy

RevenueCat is contacted only during app launch, purchase flow, or restore purchase actions.

4. Apple App Store

All payments and billing are processed directly by Apple under Apple's own privacy policies. rollbook never receives or stores your payment information.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

All roll metadata and settings are stored locally on your device.

Uninstalling rollbook removes all locally stored app data.

rollbook does not retain remote copies because no backend servers exist.

Photo access permissions can be revoked anytime in iOS Settings.

6. Children's Privacy

rollbook is not directed toward children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information.

The app contains no advertising, social networking, chat systems, or public user-generated content.

7. Security

Because rollbook stores data only on your device, security depends on your device protections such as:

Device passcode

Face ID or Touch ID

Apple's built-in iOS security protections

We strongly recommend keeping your device updated and protected with a passcode.

8. International Users

rollbook can be used worldwide. Because the app does not transmit personal data to servers we control, there are no cross-border transfers of personal data by rollbook itself.

Any purchase-related data processed by RevenueCat or Apple is handled under their own privacy policies.

9. Your Rights

Because rollbook does not collect personal data, there is no user account or server-side data for us to manage.

You remain fully in control of:

Your photos through Apple Photos

Your roll catalog stored locally on your device

Your photo library permissions through iOS Settings

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect functionality changes or third-party service updates.

The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page will always indicate the latest revision date.
